Calalta Supply Ltd. was founded in 1986 in Calgary Alberta Canada. The President/CEO/Founder Lorne Gilbert is still at the helm, (37 years) currently holds the position of Senior Product Manager. Lisa Peffers (Gilbert) joined the Calalta Team in 1997 (26 years) and still holds the position of V.P of Operations. There are many other long time staff members ranging from 36 years to 20 years, a reflection of the kind of great company it is to work for.

Calalta primarily started as an Automotive Supply company with a full service sales program which included merchandising and planograming. Calalta’s initial client/customer base in the late 80’s was made up of the Service Station industry (namely Turbo, Fas Gas, Husky etc) . As the Service station industry evolved over the years into what we know today as the Convenience store market; in the 1990’s Calalta acquired the two major C-store accounts in Canada. The company focus continued in the direction of providing Automotive inventory and sales/merchandising support to the Convenience store Market at corporate and store level.

Fast Forwarding to the 2000’s Calalta being the leading Automotive Supplier to all the Major Convenience store Chains in Canada with a salesforce based across the nation, Calalta then diversified and implemented a Novelty Candy program to the C-Store market. Adding this new dimension to the Calalta lineup proved very successful – Calalta was the first company to introduce the number one seller “Candy Spray” into Canada.

With the new “Retailer Initiative” being implemented and enforced at store level, Calalta adapted once again to the times and over the course of the next decade switched gears from the direct to store program to supplying and partnering up with the three largest major distribution centres for convenience stores in Canada. This move proved very successful and mutually beneficial for Calalta and distribution centres - hence the new Calalta motto emerged: “35 years Stronger Together”. Calalta now with the Wholesale Distributor title, was exposed to many other accounts growing our customer database to now include some major grocery and independent stores across Canada.

This being a technological age – in 2005 Calalta diversified yet again; in conjunction with 7-Eleven Canada helped launch the largest Prepaid Cellular Program named “SPEAKOUT” in the convenience store industry. Still going strong, the Speakout program is a great success.

Calalta shortly after also became the fulfilment/order processing centre for online Speakout Website purchases offering customer support and product shipping.
